Ask the class to make a list of the things they would take on a camping trip. List all of their suggestions on the board. Then have them consider needs v.s. wants. What would they really need to survive? Why? What would happen if a need was not met? Next, help them explore what an animal living in the wild would need to survive. What would they need to survive? Why? What would happen if an animal's need was not met? Consider other living things (plants for food, trees for shelter) as well as non-living objects (man-made shelter).
During your safari, our guide will point out the things in our habitat that allow the animals to thrive.
